Society of the War of 1812 in Virginia
Membership Requirements

To apply for membership to Society of the War of 1812 in Virginia, contact the Society Registrar. His name and e-mail address is listed in the “Officers” section. He will assist you in establishing your line of descent and in getting your application prepared. To view the eligibility requirements visit the link to the General Society site.

You do not have to be a resident of Virginia to apply for membership through the Virginia Society, however to be active in Society affairs and attend meetings, you may want to join instead, through the Society that exists in your state. Some members of the General Society, however, retain dual memberships in more than one state by paying the annual dues in each state.

After your membership is approved you will receive a Virginia Society Membership Certificate and a rosette for wear on informal attire. You will be asked to attend the annual meeting to receive these in an induction ceremony. During this ceremony you will be required to take an oath to support the Constitution of the Society and that of the United States of America, and to work diligently to perpetuate the memories of our War of 1812 ancestors and to collect, preserve and enhance the history of the War of 1812 so future generations can share this great heritage and knowledge of the sacrifices of these ancestors.

You may print out and use a practice worksheet by clicking HERE.
